Accessibility of healthcare facilities

Health facilities are visited daily by people with disabilities and people with temporary mobility restrictions, for example after injuries or in old age. It is therefore important that precisely these locations are accessible.

Accessibility information is important for healthcare organizations.

Which physiotherapy practice is wheelchair accessible? Is it possible to visit the therapist with a stroller? Is there a lift in the dental practice so that I can get to the fourth floor despite crutches? Many patients deal with such questions on a daily basis. Because while communication of opening hours or specialist competencies is a matter of course today, there is still a lack of transparency about the accessibility of buildings, especially healthcare facilities.

People with a mobility disability therefore have to laboriously collect this information. This not only costs time, but also nerves. Ginto does it better: With the support of Sympany Foundation Ginto collects and shares information on the accessibility of health practices and outpatient centers, physiotherapy and dental practices, and pharmacies.

“I find it impressive to see that you don't have this perspective of walking and other disabilities. Certain unnecessary barriers, such as furniture under the sink, become visible. Without recording my practice with the Ginto app, I probably wouldn't have noticed this.”

Easy recording of accessibility

“It's eye-opening when you deal intensively with accessibility.”
Judith Graser, President physiopaed
Daniela Schöb from Sitios and Judith Graser from physiopaed record the accessibility information of a physio practice. They measure the height of the control elements at the entrance door.

This is how medical, physiotherapy dental practices and pharmacies can support this campaign for more inclusion in healthcare:

1. Capture: The free app Ginto Install, register your own practice and off you go: The premises can be recorded independently by practice staff. Depending on the size and number of rooms, it takes around 1-3 hours. For larger facilities, Ginto also offers a professional, chargeable recording service.

2. Share: Once entered, Ginto generates a web link with detailed accessibility information. In order for people with disabilities to find important information for planning a visit to a health practice, it is important to share this web link in a clearly visible way on their own practice website.

By the way, all healthcare facilities can participate, including those that are not 100% barrier-free — because patients' needs are as individual as the infrastructure of practices.
