Para-Cycling World Championships Zurich 2024
The 2024 UCI Cycling and Para-Cycling Road World Championships in Zurich set new standards for inclusive major events. In May 2024, information on the accessibility of Zurich restaurants, hotels and tram stops was collected with Ginto as part of a mapathon.
New standards for inclusion
Major events such as the UCI Cycling and Para-Cycling Road World Championships Zurich 2024 have the potential to leave a long-term, positive legacy. For the first time in history, cycling and para-cycling competitions took place together and simultaneously. Athletes with and without disabilities crossed the same finish line at the end of the races — an important step towards inclusion.

“I was part of something big today! Collecting accessibility information with Ginto was an eye-opening experience. I'm proud to be helping shape the future of inclusion in this way!”
A mapathon along the fan zones
The local organizing committee implemented numerous sustainability measures. For example, participants and visitors were provided with comprehensive information on the accessibility of the event.
For this reason, information from around 70 restaurants, pharmacies, shops, hotels, tram stops and public toilets along the fan zones was collected with Ginto in advance. Around 35 volunteers from various organizations actively supported the campaign.
The Mapathon took place as part of the National Disability Rights Action Days instead of and was used by UCI Cycling and Para-Cycling Road World Championships Zurich 2024, the Swiss Barrier-Free Association, google and Zürich Tourism supports.
