What are the goals of the Swiss Barrier-Free Association?

The name says it all: The Friends Association is committed to barrier-free Switzerland. “Accessibility” is a frequently used term to describe barrier-free access to everything and for everyone. However, the Swiss Barrier-Free Association (FVBS) has a differentiated perspective that takes into account the individual needs and requirements of people with disabilities. He therefore understands the term “accessibility” as an individual approach to individual options. Accessibility therefore does not mean removing all potential obstacles, but above all the provision of systematic information so that everyone can decide for themselves whether and when an offer is available to them. With the help of this information, all people should have the opportunity to participate in everyday and leisure activities.

Why become a member?

As a member of the Barrier-Free Switzerland Association, you actively help to develop the goals, the network and the projects for accessibility information. You will also become part of a strong network that can draw on successful and practical experience of recent years. Since its founding in 2016, the association has been supported by actors from Swiss tourism and disability organizations. In 2019, the OK:GO initiative was successfully launched as an Innotour project “Information on the accessibility of offers in Swiss tourism.” The positive experiences from tourism should now also be incorporated into other sectors. For this reason, from 2026, the association will also be open to organizations from the fields of health, education and other sectors.
