Working elevators
Knowing in good time whether an elevator is working can be decisive for people who travel in wheelchairs. Ginto is therefore committed to ensuring that the operating conditions of public elevators are available as open data.
Does the lift work?
Knowing in good time whether an elevator is working can be decisive: Travelers in wheelchairs only find out that the elevator is faulty at the underground station, they often only have the option of continuing on the next train. Does that rarely happen? Unfortunately not. But if travelers in wheelchairs knew beforehand that the lift was being broken or cleaned, they could take another train, drive to work, or work from home that day.

Making travel in Switzerland inclusive together
In the “Traveling by lift” project, Ginto, together with our partners, wants to create a digital solution that notifies travelers in good time about elevator failures. For example, via push notifications or timetable apps that suggest alternative routes to avoid the faulty lift. Once the elevators are digitally connected, further exciting applications are possible. Service companies can preventively maintain elevators and thus increase availability. And the elevators could even be operated via voice control and a mobile phone.
All of this is not only useful for wheelchair users but also for older people and travelers with walking aids, heavy luggage, e-bikes or strollers. In this way, we are making elevator travel more inclusive, our cities and mobility smarter, and making an important contribution to equality for people with disabilities.
